Surfing

We are lucky in North Cornwall to have several good surfing beaches, facing in different directions, to give plenty of opportunity for surfing.

The quality of the surf is dependant on many factors: the wind speed and direction, state of the tide, the geography of the beach and the air pressure.  Often the surf will be better on one beach over another.  Check out our weather, tide and surf page for more details of today's surf.

The best beaches in our area for surf are Polzeath, Trevone, Harlyn, Constantine/Boobys and Treyarnon.  Constantine has some bad rip currents at certain states of the tide.  You are advised not to surf here alone if you are a beginner.  Check out our beaches guide for all the beaches in the area.

Learn to Surf

If you've never surfed before we recommend one of our local surf schools.  Not only will they help with the basic techniques, they will also offer you sound advice to ensure that you surf safely in the future.

Advice from the RNLI

Always hire equipment from an RNLI Approved Hire Centre.

If you are a beginner, always surf on a lifeguarded beach. Click here for a list of lifeguarded beaches.

Surf at a beach that is appropriate for your skill level.  Constantine and Booby's Bay are not suitable for beginners.  Beginners are advised to stick to Polzeath, Trevone and Harlyn.

Accommodation

If all you want to do is surf, we recommend that you stay in either Polzeath, HarlynConstantine or Treyarnon so that you can fall out of bed and straight onto the beach!  Follow the links for accommodation in that area.

Clothing and Accessories

For all your surfing clothing and accessories visit one of our surf shops.  Their websites also have Eshops so that you can order up all your clothing ready for your visit!
